We chat with the Technical Sales Support Consultant for Fronius, Adrian Shore as he introduces a revolutionary Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) process, available only from Fronius.
The welding process of Cold Metal Transfer or as it is more commonly referred to as CMT eliminates spatter and produces high quality welds at a quick speed. The effectiveness of this process has been further improved with the introduction of CMT Advanced from Fronius.
As Adrian explains, “The CMT Advanced process from Fronius guarantees up to 60 percent higher deposition rate, better gap-bridging ability and high process stability.”
The advantages of the CMT Advanced system ensures excellent gap-bridgeability on several different materials including Steel, CrNi and Aluminium.
According to Adrian, “The CMT Advanced process stands for deposition rates that can be exactly adjusted by way of positive and negative process cycles. As well as the wire motions, now the polarity of the welding current is fully integrated into the process-control as well. Polarity reversal takes place in the short-circuiting phase, which is what ensures the accustomed process stability of CMT. Further advantages include carefully targeted thermal input, and a higher deposition rate with no increase in heat input and minimal distortion.”
We asked Adrian to outline some of the possible Applications and the Processes of the CMT Advanced:
Applications
• Light and ultra-light-gauge joints with high gap bridgeability
• Joining of high-strength steels with low thermal input
• Less dilution when cladding
• Root passes without weld-pool backing support
• Bimetal joins (e.g. steel to aluminum); lower heat input and higher deposition rate
• Brazing of high- and super-high strength steels
Processes
• CMT Advanced: Positive and negative CMT cycles
• CMT Advanced Pulse: Negatively poled CMT cycles and positively poled pulsing cycles
• CMT
• CMT Pulse
• Pulsed arc
• Standard arc
“The best part is that the process is all available in one machine! The CMT Advanced is now available at our premises in Thomastown.” says Adrian.
