ABB’s robots users can now easily shift to standard USB memory sticks – safeguarding their vital robot data
ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has introduced the USB disk drive replacement kit for ABB’s robot controllers models S4 to S4C. The new kit is a complete package upgrade solution that replaces existing and often unreliable, hard to source floppy disk drive unit and disks with a USB connection point. The kit lets users transfer all their stored programs and data to a standard USB memory stick and also provides a connection point for a PC.
The replacement kit provides a safeguard for data and programs, which can cost thousands of dollars to develop, and are among the most valuable parts of a robot system. This is important as the life expectancy of a floppy disk drive is less than a third of the rest of the robot system and may be the first part to fail – possibly taking programs with it.
Main benefits
− Replaces 3.5-inch drives or boxes of disks
− Faster transfer time and lower risk of data loss
− Ideal for cold booting and program selection
− Large storage capacity – equivalent to 100 floppy disks
− Completely plug compatible – supplied with fixings
The disk drive replacement kit comes complete in a package containing all the parts necessary to install and run the USB device, including an instruction and installation manual. The unit is supplied with two formatted and ready-to-use USB sticks, compatible to the selected system version. Additional formatted USB sticks are available from ABB. A product version compatible for the robot controllers models S3 is available on request.
